[ Ms Skinnyfat ] Restarting my skincare regime- IDS Skincare Part 3
IDS Skincare, 26 July 2021
Recently i tried the Pico Laser at IDS Skincare, which IDS recommended to help with skin rejuvenation and brightening, and also pigmentation reduction. I understand that this laser could be done monthly as the intensity is not that high, which also means that the downtime is shorter (about 1 - 2 days), and is good for maintenance.
The “Pico” in “PicoLasers” refers to Picosecond, which is one trillionth of a second. This is approximately approximately ten times faster than nanosecond Q-switched lasers and theoretically works more efficiently in targeting the specific tissues with less surrounding tissue damage.
For the laser, my skin was cleansed first before numbing cream was applied. The numbing process takes about 15 - 20 mins but i thought it felt shorter than that. I was then quickly ushered into the treatment room and Dr Michelle started on the laser immediately.
I was a little tense as it had been some time since my last laser treatment. I must say that the pain was a little more than i expected as i thought my face would be completely numb. I would say the pain was 3-4 on a scale of 10 but thankfully it was in short bursts. It was definitely more intense than IPL, plus i could smell the burn. Sensitive areas such as the upper lips also hurt more. The laser was more concentrated on my cheeks and nose for purpose of reducing pore size and pigmentation. Anyway before i knew it, the treatment was over and that took maybe 5 minutes.
There was zero downtime for me in fact. Any possible redness had subsided by the time i got home (about 30 mins). My skin felt quite smooth immediately and for the next few days. In terms of significant effect of the laser on my skin condition, i honestly couldn't tell. Seems like visible effects would only be seen after repeated treatments, which would mean more effort is required on my part to upkeep my appearance. I'd probably go for aesthetic treatments which are more impactful even if it means a longer downtime. The picture above was taken a day after the laser with light make-up on- powder, under-eye concealer and some blush.
Overall i thought the experience was a little rushed. The staff also did not mention anything about the after care e.g. staying out of the sun. I was only made aware of that by my doctor friend, which was a little late as i worked out in the morning sun (though sheltered).
So far, I've tried IDS Skincare's products, facial, and the laser treatment. Of the lot, i'm more inclined to return for their facials. Personally i didn't think there are significant improvements to my skin after 3 months of using their products as i still get the same periodic outbreaks but i must say that i really like the Recovery Serum as it treats the occasional dry patches very well. The C2 cleanser is also a favorite as it isn't too drying.
