IDS Skincare, 25 June 2021

Being new to dermatological and aesthetic treatments, I was elated when IDS ( Innovative Dermatological Solutions ) invited me to experience the IDS Journey with them. Everyone’s skin is different and even two persons with acne may not use the same products and that is why IDS created this #idstransformme journey because #IDServe good skin.
In this skincare journey with IDS, I will be exploring, understanding and using the products and services of the 3 IDS entities namely; IDS Clinic, IDS Aesthetics and IDS Skincare over the next few months.
IDS non-tinted sunscreen has been on my wish list ever since it clinched Harper Bazaar Best Sunscreen Award 2017 so I was glad that I have the chance to experience their products and services and to share my experiences with you.

My Experience At IDS Clinic ( Orchard )
With two locations to choose from - Novena and Orchard, there was no doubt that I would choose Orchard, a central location accessible to most people. At 4,240sq ft, the orchard branch is their flagship store which houses IDS Aesthetics, IDS Clinic and IDS Skincare retail outlet located on the second floor of International Building. There are 11 treatment rooms, a powder room, a skincare dispensary and a retail display of IDS Skincare’s product range.
Upon arrival, I was asked to fill up my personal particulars followed by the health declaration and Safe Entry check-in procedure for contact tracing purpose due to the current pandemic.
This was my first visit to an aesthetic clinic and I was awed by the expansive lounge where several customers were seated and waiting for their names to be called for their respective treatments. There was a professional clinical vibe to the whole place.
PS : I took the pictures on another day without the crowd.

After 15 minutes of waiting, an IDS consultant, Caline brought me into a room to have my photo ( front, left and right face ) taken. A mobile phone was used to take the pictures. According to the consent form, this photo may be used in IDS's medical and health publications as well as marketing purposes but I chose to opt out of the marketing portion. This whole process took about 5 - 10 minutes.
Another 15 minutes later, I was ushered into Dr. Michelle Wong's consultation room which was clean and neat, like the rest of the clinic. She is the doctor I was assigned to. Pretty, gentle and friendly, Dr. Wong has a ready smile for her patients and is polite throughout the consultation.
A vanity desktop mirror was placed on the table, facing where I would be seated. A thoughtful gesture which I appreciate. Communication and explanation of skin woes were made much easier with the presence of the mirror.
My skin isn't perfect and while I do have other skin concerns, my most pressing issue would be my undereye area, as I have yet to find an effective eye cream. My undereye bags and fine lines just make me look old and tired.
Hence, when Dr. Wong asked about my skin concerns, I promptly pointed out my undereye area but unfortunately, she attributed my eyebags to being hereditary as they are due to my facial bone structure. Any eye creams would not be effective. Sadly, I agreed with her as my family members have this issue too. However, deep within me, I still hope for some miracle product. HAHA.
She peered at my face for about 5 minutes to assess my skin condition before diagnosing it as combination-oily and then shared with me about my skin issues. Thankfully, she told me that my skin is considered relatively good for my ( not-so-young ) age. Phew! I am really happy to hear that from a professional!
She rightly pointed out that my issues were oily T-zone ( resulting in blackheads on the nose and enlarged pores between nose and cheeks ), uneven skin tone, slight pigmentation on the cheeks and subtle sagging at the cheeks and mouth corner. Thats alot, huh?
I love asking questions when it comes to skin, hair or health concerns. A trained professional would be able to tell me the issues so that I know where to focus next. This would be much better than Mr Google, checking on YouTube or asking on Quora.
Eye bags look like pouches or bulges underneath the eyes. A tear trough is a deep crease between the lower eyelid and upper cheek. As it can cast a shadow below the eyes, it may result in a tired appearance.
According to Dr. Wong, my undereye issue is a combination of eyebags and tear-trough. Genetics ( my bone structure ) and a sagging of my cheeks contributed partially to the issue. I have a cherubic face shape which is heavy on the cheeks area and aging of the cheeks may contribute to the formation of eye bags and worsen the appearance. The only way to improve the appearance of the eye bags is to use a filler to push it up.
I also have 4 new moles on my face in recent years. When I pointed that out to Dr. Wong, she told me that its due to genetics which came as a surprise as I always thought its due to excessive sun exposure ( The ignorant me always thought I may have started sunscreen protection too late or apply insufficient sunscreen ). She further elaborated that if its indeed due to excessive sun exposure, the sun damage on my skin would be very obvious and I have none of that. Phew! I learnt something new. That is why I love visiting professionals. I love adding knowledge to my small brain.
Next, she suggested some skincare products for my skin condition. Unfortunately, my small brain was trying hard to catch up with what she was saying about each product's function and the name of the product as they were mentioned in initials. ie. Pore Formula is known as PF, Intensive Moisturizer is known as IM. The order of the products usage was written on paper which they would later pass it to me.
If you are also like me, fret not, because the IDS consultant, who is also present with the doctor, would go through each product in more details later.
The skin consultation was pretty fast and ended in about 15 minutes. Caline, the IDS consultant, brought me back to the first room where I had my photo taken earlier, displayed the tester products ( based on what I was prescribed ) and explained each product's function and usage in more details.
After the explanation, its time to collect the skincare products at the dispensary where you have to sign off what you had collected. Unfortunately, the facial scrub was left out and I had to make time to collect it another day. It was also my fault for not checking them before leaving so a gentle reminder to check all your prescribed products before leaving the clinic.
Overall, there was a process in place throughout the visit. The doctors see the patient, prescribe the products, the consultant walks through and educates the patient on the products and the skin dispensary dispenses the products. Each staff has their own role to play in the clinic, resulting in an efficient process and with that, I was out of the clinic in less than 1.5 hours.
Adding on, Caline has been friendly, polite and helpful throughout the visit. Her mobile number was provided so that I can text her for any product usage and treatment queries which was really helpful and I really appreciate that gesture. For someone who does not use that many products in a single routine, I really do need that help.
Here's an introduction of the prescribed IDS ( Innovative Dermatological Solutions ) skincare products for my skin issues and concerns. Certainly hope they worked well for me especially since Chinese New Year is just round the corner! I will review them in 1 ~ 2 months' time.
